Capture Android App Traffic from Your Laptop Without Cables or Extra Apps
Capture Android App Traffic from Your Laptop — No Cable, No Ethernet Sharing!
Want to inspect Android application network traffic without a complicated setup? PCap Mobile: Packet Capture makes it easy to capture traffic on your Android phone, control supported capture sessions from your laptop's browser, and download PCAP files over Wi-Fi.
Capture Android Network Traffic from Your Laptop Browser
Imagine testing an Android application and wanting to see its network activity from your laptop. You don't want to install another capture-control application, connect Ethernet adapters, or configure Internet Connection Sharing just to get started.
PCap Mobile offers a simpler workflow: capture traffic on your phone and use the Wi-Fi Transfer feature to access the supported browser interface from your laptop.
Monitor live packet-capture activity from your Android device.
No Ethernet Cable Required
Use a local Wi-Fi connection to access your phone's capture library from your laptop. There is no need for a dedicated Ethernet connection between the devices for file transfer.
No Internet Connection Sharing Setup
You do not need to turn your laptop into an Internet-sharing gateway simply to download capture files. The phone and laptop communicate over a reachable local network.
No Additional Laptop Capture-Control App
Use a compatible web browser to access the phone's Wi-Fi Transfer interface. You can manage supported capture operations from the browser without installing a separate capture-control program on the laptop.
Note: Wi-Fi Transfer and browser-based capture controls are Pro features. Both devices must be able to communicate over the local network.
How to Capture Android App Traffic
Step 1: Install PCap Mobile
Install the application on your Android phone and open it.
Download PCap Mobile from Google Play →
Step 2: Enable Wi-Fi Transfer
Open Wi-Fi Transfer in the app and enable it. Follow the instructions displayed by the app to obtain the local address for your browser.
Step 3: Open the Address on Your Laptop
Connect your phone and laptop to the same reachable Wi-Fi network, then open the displayed address in Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or another compatible browser.
Step 4: Select Applications and Protocols
Choose the applications and supported protocol filters relevant to your test before starting a capture.
Filter captured packets to find relevant network activity faster.
Step 5: Start Capturing and Reproduce the Issue
Start the capture from the supported browser interface, then use your Android application to reproduce the problem. Stop the capture when you have collected the traffic you need.
Step 6: Download the PCAP File
Open the capture library and download the saved PCAP file to your laptop. You can inspect it later using a compatible packet-analysis tool.
Inspect packet details and supported protocol information.
More Features for Developers and Network Engineers
- No-root packet capture: Uses Android's VPN service, with the required system permission.
- Application filtering: Select installed apps to help focus your capture.
- Protocol filtering: Work with supported traffic such as TCP, UDP, DNS, HTTPS and web traffic.
- Live monitoring: View packet counts, bandwidth and other capture statistics.
- Packet inspection: Review addresses, ports, protocol details, packet sizes and timing.
- Hex viewer: Inspect raw packet data.
- TCP/UDP stream inspection: Examine related packets together.
- PCAP export: Save and share capture files for further analysis.
- Protocol reference library: Learn about supported networking protocols, including TCP/IP, DNS, TLS, QUIC, SIP and more.
Save, organize and export your captures for later analysis.
Optional: Analyze Captures with Wireshark
PCap Mobile can inspect captures directly on your Android device. If you need a more advanced desktop analysis environment, download your PCAP file and open it in Wireshark.
Wireshark is optional. You do not need to install it just to use PCap Mobile's browser-based capture controls or download files.
Can It Read HTTPS Passwords and Messages?
Capturing encrypted HTTPS traffic does not automatically reveal the contents of encrypted requests and responses. You can still inspect available metadata, connection information, packet timing and other visible protocol details, but encrypted payloads generally remain unreadable without an appropriate authorized decryption setup.
Who Should Use PCap Mobile?
- Android developers debugging API connectivity.
- QA engineers investigating mobile application bugs.
- Network engineers troubleshooting DNS, TCP and UDP communication.
- VoIP developers investigating supported SIP and network traffic.
- Cybersecurity students learning packet analysis.
- Technical support teams collecting diagnostic PCAP files.
